It is a 4.5km canal in Paris. It joins the Canal de l’Ourcq to river Seine and flows between Bastille and Republique.
It has not been cleaned or drained for many years. When the Parisian authorities finally made the choice to clean it, they were surprised at what they saw. The place was not only inhabited by living creatures, but also with so much trash.

The last time the canal was cleaned was in 2001 and they collected almost 40 tons of garbage. This time, those who cleaned the place found items like bicycles, motorbikes, gold coins, wheelchairs, a toilet bowl, and even a car.
90,000 cubic meters of water was drained from the canal and its four double locks were also renovated. Police even found a pistol which is now under their care. The cleaners also took out about 4.5 tons of trout, carp, and bream and placed them another part of the lake.
The canal will remain free from water for three months. It took the city 9.5-million euros for the cleaning. The deputy mayor asked the citizens to be patient and pay respects to the place once it is done with refurbishing. She advised the people not to throw any trash in the canal so its cleanliness can be maintained.
